A community-based response to homelessness

Adapting During COVID

The pandemic caused a lot of changes for many organizations, and our Affiliate is no different. Recently we decided to end our “rotational emergency shelter” model and host the families in our program at a single, static site. At the time being, this site is a small house in Beverly. We are actively pursuing the acquisition of a large, permanent home for our Emergency Shelter program. We look forward to the robust programming and services we will be able to offer the community in this future space! Read more about this decision here

Volunteers changing lives

For years, Family Promise North Shore Boston has been a partnership of local organizations, congregations, and colleges, helping families facing homelessness. Our host sites provided lodging, meals and hospitality to families in need. For families in the shelter program, each day began with breakfast at a host site with volunteers, followed by a bus ride to our Day Center. In the evening, guests would return to the host site, where volunteers provided dinner and spend quality time with the families. The evening hours were usually for homework, relaxing and family fun time, as they would be with any family. Each day ended with the family all together, under one roof. In our future static-site building, our volunteers will be offering many of these same services. Our hope is that having a larger, permanent shelter space will allow us to serve even more families and accommodate more volunteer opportunities!

Support Organizations

Volunteers from the community have cooked and served meals, played with the children or helped them with homework and showed compassion and respect to the families in the program, while sharing a sense of community.

Our organization has a network of support that spreads all across the North Shore! From Swampscott to Marblehead to Rockport and Gloucester, volunteers have dedicated thousands upon thousands of hours to serving our families over the years.

“There are so many problems beyond our grasp, yet this is one time we can make a difference in our own back yard.”
